Help Jesse Melvin! Injured in a hit & run!

On Monday June 17th my girlfriend Jessica Melvin (Jessica Jones on Facebook) was riding her scooter down Wooster street in Wilmington. She was in the left lane going towards 5th street where she would turn left to go home. When she was coming up on 9th street a white Altima came over from the far right lane and cut her off and turned onto 9th street. It happened so fast and she was going about 35mph so she had no time to even try to slow down. They collided with eachother. She hit his rear left side and flew in the air up and over the trunk.  The Altima sped away and did not even check to see if they killed someone. Now, thankfully she was wearing a helmet so she did not have any head injuries but she landed on her head and knees. Witnesses said she was hit very hard and flew pretty far. She was taken to the ER by ambulance. Her knees got the worst of it. The hole in her right knee was so bad they couldn't even stitch it. The white meat was hanging out. She also had a small hole in her hand and her other knee was bruised and bloody. The rest of her body had scrapes, bruises and road rash all over. Jeasica does not have medical insurance and has to pay out of pocket for the ER and also she had to see a trauma specialist and may need an orthopaedic surgeon in the future if her right leg doesn't heal properly. She was out of work for 3 and a half days as well. Also, that scooter was our only form of transportation and as she was unable to walk well for a few days we spent a lot of our rent money on uber and now on the bus. We are raising money for hospital bills and towards rent and transportation. I feel like I should add that Jessica is the only one working at the moment for our family. I am a stay at home mom with our 10 month old and 9 year old daughters. So this has definitely hurt us financially and her physically and mentally as well. Also I want to add that the driver has been identified and early this morning the detective was getting the warrants together to arrest him. We will be taking him to court!  He needs to be charged for this and for his total disregard for precious human life!!
