I started working with this group of kids, in the poorest neighborhood of Santa Clara County, last year when they were 7th graders. This year they will be walking across the stage and promoting to High School. I didn't ever think that these kids would mean  as much as what they mean to me now. They are such wonderful and thoughtful individuals and have worked hard throughout middle school. I want to do something special for them before they are sent off because they have earned it. However, I can't afford to do much.

I know some of us are still strapped—paying rent, tuition, loans but if enough of you guys donate even $5 I can have enough to show these kids that the community cares and is invested in their success. Often times we can feel discouraged when we aren't given positivity for our efforts and moreso for these students who are growing up without some of the resources that we grew up with.

edit: The goal is to have an end of the year field trip to the boardwalk and have lunch on the beach. I will be giving out awards to each student and giving out high school survival kits.
