Hello everyone,
This is a difficult post for my family and I to make, as we’re a close-knit and private when it pertains to personal battles. Asking for help does not come easily to my mom. However, over the last few years, life has been incredibly challenging, and we’ve reached a point where we are hoping to lean on our community.
To share a little background, my mom was diagnosed with stage 2 colorectal cancer in July 2024. She was advised to undergo radiation, chemotherapy, and possibly surgery if needed. She has bravely completed over a month of radiation, five days a week, and is now undergoing eight rounds of chemotherapy. It took her some time to open up to friends and family about her diagnosis, as she would rather carry her burdens alone, but this situation is beyond keeping private and extremely life altering.
Since July, she has been unable to work per her doctor’s orders. Also, her job with the City of Detroit does not offer disability benefits to employees who have less than 6 years of employment with the city. This has led to me stepping up for mom by covering all of her monthly bills and some medical expenses on my income alone. I have also made emergency withdrawals from my 401k to cover bills and unexpected expenses.
My mom has been through so much these past few years. She went through a painful divorce after over 20 years of marriage. She lost both her mother and her sister just six months apart. She was hospitalized twice for blood clots. And now she’s facing cancer and chemotherapy on top of everything else that life brings. Despite all of this, she is remaining positive, has never missed an appointment, and leans on her faith to get through. It’s heartbreaking to watch her endure so much, knowing how strong she’s been for everyone else.
Now, her vehicle has broken down, and we’re financially exhausted. We’re asking for help to get her car repaired so she can continue her treatments and, prayerfully, get back to work and reclaim her normal life.
We are humbly asking for any support you feel led to give (whether that’s a donation, a share of this page, or just your prayers). Anything helps, and every bit is appreciated more than words can express.
Thank you for taking the time to read my mom’s story. Blessings.
With warm gratitude,
Andrea, Latrina & family
