TIM BERRY GOFUNDME

The 49ers lost the championship game but Tim Berry is winning his fight for survival! Tim went home on March 2nd after a 3 month-long medical ordeal.

Tim was hospitalized on December 2nd with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. On December 5th he was intubated, hovering between life and death. He spent 5 weeks heavily sedated and on the respirator in ICU followed by a monthlong hospitalization and another month of acute rehabilitation. Tim was on oxygen continuously, on a feeding tube, and later a GI tube. Once off the respirator, he had to re-learn how to swallow and talk. The months of illness caused serious lung damage and Tim now faces months of home based physical rehabilitation.

Tim’s course was complicated by knee surgery. Tim had double knee replacement during the pandemic but his left knee developed an infection and needed to be replaced by a temporary knee while Tim received high doses of IV antibiotics to eradicate the infection. It was during this treatment that the respiratory distress developed and it is feared that the antibiotics and illness combined may have caused permanent lung damage.

Tim is home but needs 24 hour support for at least 30 days. He suffers from vertigo and is at risk of falling. He cannot bathe, eat, or walk without assistance. We created this gofundme to help him afford his necessary nursing support during this critical phase of his recovery. He still faces another surgery to replace his temporary knee with a permanent model, when he regains sufficient strength and mobility.

The cost of 30 days of 24hr medical support is estimated at $25,000. As an artist, Tim can ill afford this expenditure but hopefully his community will rally in support and together we can raise the necessary funds for Tim’s care and in the process, relieve some of his considerable mental anguish about how to pay for his ongoing needs.
