Penelope's Medical Expenses

Remember me – I am the chocolate lab that was left out on the street in Bayonne and a nice police officer found me and I was taken to the shelter. I spent two long days there alone and afraid, wondering when my family was going to come and get me. I am such a good girl, but my family never showed up!! Anyway, I wanted to update you on my status. I have some good news and some bad news….

The good news is, NJ Wiener Club found me a foster family and they broke me out of that scary shelter place. NJ Wiener Club started a GoFundMe page to help raise money for my visits to the vet because my back legs are weak and I recently had a litter of puppies. They raised $1,500.00 for me!! Dr. Frezzo’s office was kind enough to squeeze me in on a busy Saturday and gave me a good check-up. The doctor thinks I am about 5-6 years old. At my visit they took X-rays of my legs to determine why I was having issues walking and going up the stairs. We think I must have been crated most of my life and didn’t receive the proper exercise or medical care. My foster family found a place for me to have physical therapy to help strengthen my legs. After one session, I am already walking a little bit better. Between us, my foster family has adopted me!!!

And now for the bad news…. it appears I was just used to have puppies and when my former family was done with me, they just let me go. Their loss!! Unfortunately, I have not been feeling well this past week and I have developed an infection in my uterus called pyometra. The infection is from giving birth and not having the proper medical care post-partum. I’m scheduled for surgery tomorrow. I’m not going to lie, I’m a little scared, but all the doctors are very nice. The cost of my current medical situation has exhausted the money that was previously raised and I was hoping that you could help contribute to my GoFundMe Page to help with my medical expenses. NJ Wiener Club has provided full transparency of where the original $1,500.00 has been used. I’m currently being treated at Animal Emergency & Referral Associates (AERA) in West Caldwell, NJ. The doctors are estimating my medical expenses could reach $5,000.00. That’s a lot of dog treats!!

Thank you for reading this post and please feel free to share. Hopefully, I will see you in the park when I feel better – Love, Penelope
