Dawn & Rick's Tornado Rebuild Fund
Don protégé
Hello dear family, friends, and compassionate readers - The picture you see is what is left standing of a house and outlying buildings including a barn after an EF-4 tornado whipped through the very small town of Fairdale, Illinois Thursday night. This property belongs to my lovely cousin Dawn (Shaw) Geist and her husband Rick who have generously opened their home and their hearts to family and friends on this location for more than 20 years. They built memories of gatherings and horsebackriding, raised a family, and are solid in their community. And all was gone in less than 10 seconds by a tornado estimated to be traveling close to 200 mph.
The attic is gone. The upper floor has no ceiling. The outlying buildings are leveled. The barn - shattered. One of the horses and all of the cats - lost. One horse, left wandering, was fantastically recovered (!) slightly battered and stunned, but survived. The garage has collapsed on their cars. Dawn and Rick were saved by taking shelter in the basement. Dawn recalls the tremendous pressure in her ears that mounted about 20 minutes before the strike....
They are sifting through the wreckage to recover their beloved belongings and necessary items that can still be used. They have turned, of course, to the insurance company for re-building expenses, and here is where our fundraiser comes in.... The property is only insured at the original purchase price! As you can imagine, this leaves quite a gap for rebuilding.
This family has never asked great monetary wealth. They are not looking for a mansion, but a home. For those of you who don't know them, if you walked up to them in the rubble today and they saw you in need, they would, literally, give you the shirt off of their backs, find you a meal and give you shelter. If you can spare any donation from $10, $100, or if you are blessed enough to give in the thousands (you don't get big if you don't ask big!!), please give to the fund. If you can repeat the donation, consider the option when offered.
If you cannot afford a monetary gift, your prayers in and of themselves are sincerely appreciated. Please share this campaign on your page and we ask your friends of friends to share as we are trying to reach a rather large goal here. Thank you so much for taking the time to read Rick & Dawn's story and praying for the whole town of Fairedale.
