Adam won't ask for your help, but he and his family could use some support.
October 2018 Adam began struggling with leg weakness & numbness. Today, he has almost completely lost all function of his legs. It started with right knee weakness and left toe numbness and progressed slowly to where the left side of his body below the nipple line was completely numb and the right leg was paralyzed. Just in the month of September, symptoms have rapidly spread and now both legs are numb and have lost almost all function. After going through 5+ specialists through 3 different health systems (spine surgeons, neurologists, neuro-muscular physicians etc.) he was finally referred to the Cleveland Clinic. After many tests - lyme disease, spinal taps, ~20 MRI's, CT scans, blood work, etc. - all that has been determined is that there is something in his spinal cord, spanning through T2, T3 & T4. After his last MRI at the end of September, they could see that whatever it is in his spinal cord has now spread to T5 & T6. It could be a lesion, mass, tumor or infection - we still do not know. His current diagnosis is "Thoracic Myelopathy," basically meaning there is "something" abnormal in the thoracic spine.
Adam has been a Police Officer for going on 8 years and is a licensed Realtor. Adam has been on short term disability through work since April and can no longer do many "normal" things such as walking or driving. Unfortunately with Adam unable to work and with his medical mystery continuing to progress, these unexpected medical expenses are adding up to thousands of dollars. There is currently no clear path or timeline to recovery.
Funds and donations will be used to cover medical bills, travel expenses to testing facilities, and equipment. Adam first needs to purchase a suitable wheelchair, access ramp to his home and mechanical hand controls for his vehicle to start safely adjusting to and overcoming these new challenges.
Adam and Lianna are welcoming their first child, a baby girl, into their life at the end of October. This is a true blessing for the young family but they could use some help!
