Iraq War Vet Needs Tires
Donation protected
Dear Friends and Family,
We are writing to ask for your help. A good friend of our son, Dustin Furr, came home from the Iraq War in 2011. He has nobody here. He us 27 years old, and we have "unofficially" adopted him into our family.
Dustin served our country in combat for 7 years. He sleeps little, and suffers from terrible flashbacks and nightmares. He was in Special Operations in the Air Force. He lost all of his friends in a bombing; he was the only survivor.
Dustin came back to the height of chaos at the VA hospital. His records fell through the cracks and it took him two years to start receiving 50% of his PTSD benefits. Although he has Tramatic Brain Injury (TBI), the government has denied TBI benefits. Needless to say, he is struggling immensely.
He has a very difficult time in social situations, but is in school full time working on his Bachelor's degree, and is trying to find work. He has registered with the Troops to Energy Program through APS, although positions haven't opened up yet.
Dustin's truck is in desperate need of tires. The ones currently on it are completely bald and smooth, to the point of danger. My other half, Faren Wattie, and I are asking friends and family for donations to help us replace Dustin's tires. He does not know of our intentions.
This way, he can continue to safely drive to school and job applications. We felt this would be a great thing to do at Christmas to help a young man out that has given so much to his country. If you know Dustin, please keep this a secret for Christmas!
If you can offer help of any kind, we very much appreciate it. We will be presenting Dustin with a gift certificate from Discount Tires on Christmas.
Warmest wishes to you and yours this holiday season,
Karen Bruno and Faren Wattie
