New documentary film (final title t.b.a) on Rozz Williams (Christian Death) by friend and collaborator Nico B needs your support to finish the editing & post production.
On the 25th Anniversary of Rozz Williams (aka Roger Painter) his death and his 60th birth year we would like to finish the documentary we have shot so far in 4K video format. For 2 years we have filmed 23 collaborators, friends of Rozz Williams, who knew him personally, including his family, Eva O, Gitane Demone, Rikk Agnew, Ron Athey and many other individuals to tell the story of his life and work. Together with an archive of music, photographs, art and video works of Rozz Williams, Christian Death, Shadow Project, Premature Ejaculation and every project Rozz had worked on during his life time our mission is to turn this into a documentary of the legacy of Rozz Williams left us behind with.
We Need Your Help
We have planned to digitalize all the footage over the next months and want to start editing with an experienced documentary editor from January to March to finally finish the documentary - for release in 2024 — the first and only official documentary in collaboration with the Estate of Rozz Williams.
This is where YOU, fans, music lovers, collaborators, friends come in! You know the importance of the work and existence of Rozz Williams that need to be shared with the rest of the world to see.
Here is a breakdown where your support will go to:
- Digitalization of mini dvd, vhs, betacam, video tapes.
- Digitalization of audio cds and recordings.
- Digitalization of photographs and artwork.
- Paying a professional experienced documentary film editor.
- Final color grading.
- Audio mix and mastering
- Although this project is in collaboration with his family and most record labels have given us permission to use the materials in our possession, we could have unexpected licenses.
A donation in any amount will help us to make this possible.
notice: No lotteries, sweepstakes, giveaways, or promotions can be offered in exchange for any donations made on GoFundMe.
With appreciation and love to keep his work alive,
ROZZ WILLIAMS BIO
Rozz Williams (born Roger Alan Painter; November 6, 1963 – April 1, 1998) was an American singer and songwriter known for his work with the bands Christian Death, Shadow Project (with musician Eva O), and the industrial project Premature Ejaculation. Christian Death is cited by some as a pioneer of the American gothic rock scene as well as deathrock, and is considered to be one of the most influential figures of the scene. However, Williams disliked the "goth" label and actively worked to shed it during the 1980s and 1990s by focusing on punk rock, hard rock, cabaret, and spoken word music. Williams was also involved with his groups Daucus Karota, Heltir, EXP, Bloodflag, and his own version of Christian Death (Christian Death featuring Rozz Williams), along with recording a handful of solo albums and a collaboration with Gitane Demone (1995-1996). In addition to music, Williams was also an avid painter, poet, and collage artist. He also co-directed and scored Pig, a 1998 experimental psychological horror silent short film with underground film maker Nico B. The film stars Rozz Williams and James Hollan and was produced and directed by Nico B. Pig was the last work Williams did. Williams committed suicide by hanging himself in his West Hollywood apartment on April 1, 1998. He was 34 years old.
Artist that have been inspired by Christian Death include Danzig, Craddle of Filth, Paradise Lost, Korn, Type O negative, Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson and Jane's Addiction.
