**Update June 26, 2023It’s been a rough couple of days but not horrible. It took longer to get the breathing tube than they had hoped but it did come out this morning around 10 and then he got up to the chair and 1. The movement was extremely hard but the payoff will be great. Because the surgery was so long and he was on bypass for a while he’s struggling with some neuro affects/pump head. The same thing happened last year and should resolve itself as more time passes but because of that they are trying to limit the narcotics so we can get him more alert. It’s a good thing he hates narcotics! He did just say though that his neuropathy pain is worse than his chest pain so that’s good. Actually it’s bad because that’s how much the neuropathy bothers him but it’s good that his surgery pain odds tolerable. Thank you all so much for the kind words, thoughts and prayers! We will get through this!**Update June 24, 2023❤️Roy got back to his room this morning around 5am after a successful transplant. The new heart was in and beating on its own last night around 10pm but it’s normal to then spend a considerable amount of time controlling any bleeding. Around 4am they felt they had accomplished that and closed him up. They are keeping him sedated today but overall everything went very well and his new heart is doing amazing.❤️**Update June 23, 2023❤️ WE HAVE A HEART!!! ❤️ We don’t know anything about the donor, and they won’t tell us anything more other than they’ve found him a very good heart. The OR is tentatively scheduled at 4.It’s become a very difficult and stressful time for my parents…It started a couple weeks before Memorial Day, Roy had been rushing to get his transmission in his sand buggy for Memorial weekend at the dunes. He was losing energy much quicker than normal as well as his breath. We made it to the dunes and he went downhill very fast. He was having a hard time breathing, could not lay down which meant very little sleep(fluid was building in his chest), extremely nauseous and exhausted. It wasn’t until that following Thursday he finally went to the doctor to get checked who immediately sent him to the ER. He was at Utah Valley for 5 days getting tests done, had 2 stents put in and much more. Once home from UT Valley, he only made it about another week before declining rapidly again. On May 23rd, he went back to his doctor who then said he needs to see a specialist. His doctor called and got him in with another doctor at The Heart & Lung Institute at the Murray IHC. He waited a couple hours for a bed to open up and has been there since. While in Murray, they have found not only is the left side of his heart failing, but also his right. It was only going to be that he would need a pump on his left chamber(LVAD) but as of July 1st, they found out his right chamber is bad as well so he will also need a pump on that side(RVAD). With the LVAD, he would’ve been able to leave the ICU and go home while he waits for a heart transplant. Now that he needs the RVAD, that pump is external on a machine which means he will be in ICU until a heart donor becomes available, which could be months. It’s been devastating news but Roy is optimistic and is keeping his spirits high! With all of this going on though, my parents are going to be taking a pretty hit to their finances. They’re the ones who never ask for help but I know they’re needing it now more than ever. The every days bills don’t stop with addition to the medical bills they’ll have now. Any little bit helps and I, as well as my whole family, will be so appreciative!
