Royce Medical Surgery

Hi, my name is Ivanka and I am Royce's Aunt and my sister is his mama. I wanted to starta fundraiser for my little nephew. Royce is my sisters first kid and the first grandkid in our family. We were all super excited to meet him when my sister told us she was pregnant. While her pregnancy was not easy at all Royce came out the perfect little boy. He is fun, loving and the happiest baby you will ever meet.

At his first appointment with the pediatrician, they had mentioned that he had a big head, but that it was nothing to worry about just yet. My sister and her husband kept returning for Royces usual appointments and every time the circumference of his head was something that was pointed out. At his four-month appointment, they wanted Royce to go see a specialist over at Arnold Palmer because his head circumference was showing above the 99 percentile.

Luckily they got an appointment right away and the team at Arnold Palmer managed to get all of his testing done that same morning. After the tests came back, he was diagnosed with sagittal suture craniosynostosis. What is this you may ask, a baby's skull consists of several plates of bone that are separated by flexible, fibrous joints called sutures. As infants grow and develop, the sutures close, forming a solid piece of bone. Well, Royce’s sutures closed too early, causing him problems with normal brain growth and giving him more of a narrow head shape. If not fixed can cause him more problems as he gets older.

The date has already been set for him to get his surgery. The surgeons will go in and create an opening and then reconstruct his skull. As much as this fundraiser is needed to pay for his medical bills, I believe we need prayers and support more than anything. Prayers for peace in our hearts and minds knowing that he is in good hands with the team at Arnold Palmer. Patience as we wait during his surgery, and hope that everything will go smoothly and at the end of all this, we will all get our fun, loving happy little baby boy back! Even if you are unable to donate a share still goes a long way and maybe Royce’s story can even reach others who have either gone through the same thing or are currently going through this too.
