Our brother, Royce was recently diagnosed with advanced stage liver disease. I (Robyn) will be taking him to Ocshner-New Orleans December 15th for several days of appointments and testing. His only chance for a cure is a transplant. Fortunately, liver can be donated from a living donor. He is a loving, devoted Dad to his only child, Carrie. She wanted very much to be the donor but their blood types are incompatible. Thankfully, myself as well as our brother and two of his other sisters have compatible blood types. I will be meeting with the surgeon with him to discuss my overall compatibility next week, as well. If for some reason I cannot donate, we will move on to the next sibling. 2020 has been a difficult year for everyone, and right here at the holidays couldn’t be a worse time to be facing this, but we don’t always get to choose. And time is not exactly on our side. He has already been hospitalized for a paracentesis (a procedure to drain fluid from his abdomen that was making it difficult for him to even breathe), and he is on a very high dosage of diuretics to pull off as much fluid as possible. Prior to that procedure, he was probably carrying around 50lbs of extra fluid weight, as well as other complications related to his greatly decreased liver function. We understand that everyone has had a difficult year, and if you cannot give monetarily, please, most importantly keep us all in your prayers during this time. We will have a tremendous amount of out-of-pocket expenses with travel, hotels, food, etc. We were in Shreveport last week for more preliminary tests but thankfully we were able to stay with Carrie, so that spared the hotel expenses. He is also on a very restricted diet and fluid restriction, so drive-thru foods are nearly out of the question completely. We will be staying this coming week in the hotel attached to Ocshner-New Orleans, and hopefully we can get a room with a kitchenette to be able to prepare meals there. I’ll try my best to keep everyone updated as we continue this journey! ❤️❤️Organizer and beneficiary
