This is Lexi Baker and I have been Roy's friend since Junior High School. Please help in any way you can.
On October 18th, 2022, Roy was working on the roof of the Sherman and Ross Block Building at the corner of Main and Townsend beside Demoret Park (the building is on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places and part of the Colorado Historical Society) and fell from the scaffolding while adding a skylight frame to a newly done roof at a distance of 20 plus feet. It was no surprise to me that Roy was able to come to and dial 911 after struggling to locate his phone although his back was broken and had become instantly paralyzed from the mid-chest down! On arrival, the paramedics realized he was the one who had actually called but they were unable to enter the building! Thank God a friend allowed them access and they were finally able to start some immediate medical assistance! The trauma team delivered Roy to Montrose Memorial Hospital and after evaluation, it was determined he was in dire need of major neurological surgery. He was flown via flight for life to Saint Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction CO where he would receive the care he so desperately needed! They then learned that Roy had broken both collar bones, his spine was completely displaced at T 5-9 and T 8 was completely crushed, he also had broken ribs, 5 of them with multiple breaks! Roy sustained a head injury and has some minor bleeding on the brain, a busted lip, and a huge slice in his finger! The first night was very rough and we weren’t sure he would even make it through, but his Faith in the Lord and sheer will and determination helped him to continue on! Anyone who knows him knows how strong-willed he truly is, which is ultimately saving his life as well as his amazing relationship with Jesus! He then had to have a tube inserted into his left lung to remove blood and fluid from a puncture he sustained from a broken rib! The following day they did perform the first of many surgeries where they inserted 2 metal rods to align his spine as well as 12 screws and surgically repaired a spinal cord injury with leaking spinal fluid! On October 20th he had to have another tube put into his right lung as blood and fluid had built up in it as well and he was starting to gasp for air constantly! He went into surgery again today October 21st to try and plate his ribs, of which 3 were actually completed and the others, unfortunately, were placed on hold as Roy’s lungs just wore out and it was necessary to intubate him. We are unsure just how long that will be at this time, but we do know that he now has a very long road ahead of him! There will be additional surgeries, months of Neurological Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy!
Roy has had an unprecedented amount of mental strength during this time, and he will continue to fight and absolutely give all honor and glory to Jesus for his healing without a shadow of a doubt! As his body is healing and he continues down this winding road his daughter and grandchildren have been by his side since the moment they learned of the accident and have been driving back and forth from Pueblo to be there to support him in every way they possibly can! Previous building plans and necessary repairs are now put on hold but are needing completion very soon as the weather begins to set in, and the funds are now extremely limited! Bills are adding up quickly and the weight of this new reality is just another blow for the family.
Please consider donating anything at all to assist in this traumatic and heartbreaking time, any amount of time, care, love, and manpower or finances in any amount as well as PRAYER is GREATLY APPRECIATED! Please consider sharing this post as we never know when we ourselves may be in a similar situation and in need of assistance due to a tragic life-changing event! GOD is good all the time and we are all trusting in His Promises, healing, restoration, Love, and care! For without Him we are nothing! We proclaim complete healing over every inch of his broken body, and we receive it in the Mighty Name of JESUS so please pray with us all for him, his family and friends. ❤️
