Hi everyone,
My name is Spencer, and I'm starting this fundraiser to get Roxy double TPLO surgery to repair both of her ACLs. For those of you who haven't met or don't know Roxy, she is my little puppy that I adopted in February of last year. She is an American Staffordshire Terrier, and we just celebrated her first birthday in December.
Like most dogs, Roxy loves being outside. Whether it be exploring the outside world while out on a walk, sunbathing in the lawn, or simply going to and running around the park. She loves being outside with her brother Ziggy (1yr old yellow lab).
Roxy recently injured her back left leg while chasing the ball at the park. I'm not too sure if she stepped in a pothole or if she just had a poor step in stride, but suddenly she was limping very badly and was having trouble putting any weight on her foot. I took her to the vet where they confirmed that she had fully torn her ACL and that she would need surgery.
We started with getting x-rays and finding a date to get the surgery done, and in the time we were waiting to get the surgery scheduled, she managed to tear the ACL on her right leg. It didn't take much to tear and is more than likely due to her over-compensation from supporting herself on just that right leg for the last two weeks. She was a little too excited when going outside to go potty after having breakfast, and with just a little too much bounce and spring in her step, she ended up hurting herself.
Roxy is now having a tough time walking without any support and I will either carry her around to her favorite spots or I'll help her walk around with a sling around her waist. She can't do much right now besides lay around and that has become much more apparent to her now than it was before.
I've contacted many vet clinics around the valley, and almost all of them have estimated the surgery to be around 9-10k to have both legs repaired. Most of the vets, unfortunately, don't offer payment plans and require payment for the entire cost upfront.
While Roxy can't get around all too well, she still has so much love to offer. Just like many of you, I'd do anything for my fur baby. The next year will likely be pretty tough for her, and I'm not equipped financially to take this on myself, but I'd much rather take this route than even consider some of the more brutal options.
I've explored many different avenues of financial aid and would appreciate any recommendations to organizations that can help, or even vet clinics you may know of that anyone has to offer. It will be a long recovery process but I'm hopeful Roxy will be able to return to a more comfortable life.
I'd like to thank you all in advance for taking the time to read this post and those that have considered donating. I will continue to keep you all posted on any updates in the process.
Thanks!
