Our amazing mom, Roxanne, was diagnosed with congestive heart failure at just 40 years old, shortly after giving birth to her youngest son, Austin. Over the years, she has always put others before herself, caring for everyone around her without hesitation—even when her own health was at risk.

This past December, her condition worsened significantly. She began experiencing frequent emergency room visits, and on February 13th, she was admitted to McKenzie Willamette Hospital. The very next day—on Valentine’s Day—she went into cardiac arrest. Roxanne was then transferred to OHSU, where she spent 24 days in the ICU undergoing intensive monitoring and testing.

During that time, she was evaluated for a Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD), a mechanical pump that supports heart function and is considered a life-supporting device. Thankfully, she was approved for the surgery and underwent the procedure on April 2nd. The LVAD will help sustain her heart while she works toward the ultimate goal: becoming healthy enough to be placed on the heart transplant list.

Roxanne lives in Oakridge, Oregon with her husband and youngest son, Austin—about 149 miles from OHSU. Due to the distance and the strict medical requirement that she stay within 100 miles of OHSU for 30 days after surgery, she has been staying in Portland with her daughter, Shelby, who has taken time off work to help care for her during this critical recovery period.

Since December 2024, Roxanne has spent more than 50 days hospitalized between Eugene and Portland. She and her husband, who own a small plumbing business, have been unable to work consistently due to her health crisis, creating significant financial strain.
