Roxana Herrera funeral and medical expenses

Family, Friends, Caring Strangers:

It is with a heavy heart that I cannot explain the pain in the passing of my sister-in-law Roxana who was taken from us Tuesday February 6, 2024 at just 30 years old from aggressive stomach cancer.

Shortly after given birth to her fourth child in August 2023; she was diagnosed with stage four stomach cancer. She was not aware she had cancer; stomach issues were blamed on her pregnancy. Roxana had two rounds of chemotherapy sessions in hopes of reducing the tumor to remove it. The tumor was in a place that was not operable. Sadly the chemotherapy treatments were not successful. The aggressive stomach cancer took over her body in matter of months.

Roxana was a selfless individual who always helped out in any way that she could. She’d always cared for family and close friends before herself and never expected anything in return. She loved her husband Alex and her children. Family was very important to her and made sure they were taking care of. She loved cooking for her family and learn different dishes to try out. Roxana would take her family to various outings and make them teachable moments for her children. During the summer months she enjoyed going to the local rivers to cool off from the Texas heat. Roxana was a devoted wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt, cousin, and friend.

Roxana was studying to be a nail technician in hopes of opening up a nail salon with her cousin. She was an advanced student due to being self taught and already had the knowledge of the proceedings of a nail tech. Roxana had a few hours left to graduate. She graduated posthumously.

Roxana had insurance through my brother’s employment, however it didn’t cover certain procedures for the cancer treatments. Alex used the family savings for medical copays and medicine incurred costs as hospital visits became daily and weekly. Alex’s employer gave him unpaid time off to care for his wife. My brother hasn’t worked since August 2023 to care for his wife and children. He used his savings and any funds offered to him to drive back and forth to hospitals and medical appointments in care of Roxana. Also, taking and picking up their children from school.

Beginning of November 2023; family and friends held a BBQ benefit to raise funds to cover those costs incurred for the cancer treatments/procedures/medication. Roxana and my brother had various issues with the insurance company not covering the cancer treatments. The insurance company dropped Roxana and was no longer covered. My brother fought with the insurance company and was due to get coverage for her within two weeks. Sadly Roxana did not make it within those two weeks and passed. Alex does not know what medical expenses the insurance will cover posthumously.

As a family we are trying to raise 10K for some of the funeral costs and medical expenses. Any amount over will be used for medical expenses and towards the care their children. Roxana left Alex in care of their four beautiful children ages 11, 10, 5, and six months of age. Any proceeds even small change will be greatly appreciated.

We all thought Roxana had a fighting chance. God knows she fought till the end. She fought for her children and husband. She never gave up hope. It was heartbreaking seeing her fade away. I still have her sweet voice and face burned in my memory. She took a piece of everyone that had the pleasure of knowing her. Roxana is now flying high with the angles. She truly was a beautiful soul. My brother told me his best friend died and she took a huge chunk of him with her.

We as a family are trying to cope with her loss and it’ll be a difficult time as we grieve. Thank you to those who have taking the time to reach out with condolences, prayers, food, and a shoulder to cry on. Thank you for reading Roxana’s story. Thank you in advance for any amount given; it will be greatly appreciated.
