In Memory of Gavin & Langston - Rowing Angels

The world lost two of its brightest lights as Gavin Christman and Langston Rodriguez-Sane were involved in a tragic lightning strike accident in Orlando, Florida, on September 15, 2022. During a routine middle school rowing practice on Lake Fairview, a bolt of lightning triggered fatal injuries to these boys that resulted in the boat capsizing. Their three heroic teammates, who were also aboard, righted the boat, and with the help of their coach, were able to bring Langston to shore. He was rushed to the hospital where he later passed away. Gavin was missing in the lake for 24 agonizing hours until a recovery crew brought him to the surface so his family and friends could say goodbye.

This fund is being organized to support the Christman and Rodriguez-Sane families during this time of unimaginable loss. All the funds raised will go directly to these families. Through this effort, we wish to shine a spotlight on the beauty and joy that Gavin and Langston brought into this world.

Gavin’s warm eyes and loving heart reached the soul of every person he met. He had a sensitivity and insightfulness that far exceeded his 13 years of life. Gavin’s charming, good looks, keen intellect, and quick wit brought laughter to even the most mundane of situations. He was surrounded by numerous friends who were attracted to Gavin’s kind, generous, accepting nature and were always entertained by his colorful storytelling. He was especially close to his family. The loving bond between Gavin and his brother warmed the hearts of onlookers; they share a closeness that transcends this earth. In the words of Gavin’s grandfather, “This is a loss for the world. This kid was going to be president someday.” Gavin was and is a special person.

Langston was a bright light in this world. He was welcomed into heaven on his 12th birthday as family and friends gathered to celebrate the infectious joy that he brought to so many lives. Langston had a playful sense of humor that made those around him laugh and smile, especially his big sister. He was uniquely and unapologetically himself. He loved playing video games, feeding his insatiable sweet tooth, and jamming to Hall & Oats, Sinatra and reggae. A true charmer with a smoldering smile, Langston was always mugging for the camera. He possessed the remarkable ability to connect with others and made everyone feel like they were the most important person in the room. He left a legacy that will live on through all who were blessed enough to know him. Langston was a true gift.

Thank you for your support of these beautiful families during this time of unfathomable grief. We ask you to pray for Gavin’s and Langston’s families and loved ones as they face what will be a long, painful journey of healing ahead.
