Rowing the Atlantic for Spinal Injuries Ireland
Donation protected
During this lockdown period all the Graiguenamanagh rowing club members have been training at home on rowing machines instead of being on the water. We all decided it would be interesting to see if we can combine all our distances to row the width of the Atlantic ocean in aid of Spinal Injuries Ireland.
Spinal Injuries Ireland is a fantastic organisation who strive to assist people with life changing spinal injuries. We all know someone directly or indirectly affected by a spinal injury and this organisation helps them achieve their goals. They are the only support and service agency in Ireland for people who have sustained a spinal cord injury and their families.
We feel Spinal Injuries Ireland are such a worthy cause and would like to encourage as many people as possible to get behind us and donate as we row across the Atlantic Ocean together.
**UPDATE**
Believe it or not we finished this amazing challenge. So after 46 days of combined rowing we have travelled just over 4600km on rowing machines. At the start there was 34 of us altogether consisting of adults, teenagers and a few kids with a wide variety of fitness levels and after 6 weeks of teamwork, motivation and determination we had grown to over 50 people within the club contributing. This challenge was not about getting there in a record time, it's aim from the start was to enjoying rowing, keeping fit and raising awareness for a fantastic cause. Even though we can't meet up as a club at the moment, through this event we have been brought closer together than ever before. One things for sure, we will be a very fit club once this lockdown is over. Now it's time to relax the legs and chill out. Hopefully we will be back on the river soon !!!
