UPDATE:
Well, here we go. The new school year is underway and we are thrilled to announce that our Go Fund Me Campaign in support of outdoor learning at Rowe Elementary School has raised $4,810 of our $7,400 goal in just two weeks. Wow! We could not have done this without the support of the amazing parents of Rowe students and all our family, friends, neighbors and co-workers who contributed to the cause.
Last week we delivered the most special mobile classroom carts to our Rowe School teachers filled with supplies and equipment to help enable them to easily provide students with greater opportunities to get outside and learn during the school day. It’s easier to learn when you’re comfortable. To that end, every teacher now has a chair to sit in and every student has a yoga mat to sit on; easily stored and transported in their carts along with all the supplies YOU have helped to provide.
And we’re not done. Our hope is that as the spaces are put to use, we can continue to fulfill outdoor learning needs as requested by teachers and students.
This is uncharted territory for all of us and our goal as a group is to be quick, nimble and responsive in order to meet new needs as they arise for outdoor learning. Again, none of this would be possible without your support.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose.

We are so very fortunate at Rowe School that our campus allows for so many spaces for outdoor learning! Grassy areas, large trees for shade, time without masks during the day. Can you feel it? With your help we can get our students and teachers outside as much as possible.
We need help with supplies and equipment to create self-contained mobile learning stations to enable the quick and easy transition to an outdoor classroom. Please note that some of these items are additional and supplemental to the supplies being provided to Rowe School by the Portland Public School District.
$10 pays for an Outdoor Learning Kit for each student. This kit includes: pencils, pens, erasers, box of colored pencils, pencil pouch, clipboard, notebooks, a bag to carry everything in and a yoga mat to sit on. These kits are separate from the ones each student will receive for the indoor classroom.
We are planning on 320 students returning to Rowe for in-person learning. A simple donation of your child’s outdoor learning kit is amazing… or maybe add one for his/her buddy too!
$70 will provide outdoor yoga mats for 15 students.
$160 affords us a mobile Teacher Station including: easel, whiteboard, package of dry erase markers, package of markers, magnets, large pad of newsprint, pencil sharpener, tall laundry baskets (for mat storage), camp chair, small first aid kit and cart to transport it all. We need to supply 22 of these stations to our Rowe Teachers.
Whatever you can donate to the Outdoor Learning Fund is beyond fantastic.
The plan is for all of the students and teachers to be able to start with this supply / equipment base - think of it as a “standard issue mess kit” - and as specific needs requested by the teachers / required by the space become known the hope is to also be able to fulfill them
School begins on September 14th so there is a great sense of urgency.
We made a promise of outdoor learning opportunities to our kids, our teachers and our Rowe Community. It is a HUGE reason why so many parents are comfortable sending their children back to school. Let’s not let them down. Let’s make every possible effort to make that happen. Rowe School has always been a “get it done” community and we believe this challenge is no different. We know we CAN make it happen.
