Rowan Rieve Brain Surgery

Rowan Rieve just turned 8. On the weekend of his birthday he started vomiting and had a hard time keeping any food or water down. His family and his physician thought it was likely because Rowan was about to start school for the first time.

You see, his mother Charlan Rieve, an Air Force veteran, had been home schooling Rowan and his younger brother. This year, she decided Rowan was ready to go to school in-person. Though he was a little nervous, he mostly felt excited and they thought his issues were just due to nerves.

Unfortunately the issues persisted and it was discovered that Rowan has a 3cm mass at the base of his brain that is blocking the spinal fluid from draining from his brain into his spinal column. The build up of fluid has been making him vomit.

Rowan is undergoing a biopsy to determine the cause of the mass and is scheduled to have surgery on Friday 8/20. He will likely need extensive follow-up care.

The Rieve family could really use your support. Dad Robert is a high school music teacher, and while he does have medical insurance, all the costs of his care will not be covered by their insurance. His mother Charlan is currently going to school and she works as the podcast editor for the Lessons Learned for Vets Podcast and a contract writer for Get Results Career Services. She will likely be unavailable to work as care for Rowan and her younger son at home is her top priority.
