We found out that this was all caused by strep (Rowan had this in December) that made its way into his right sinus and grew uncontrolled and unchecked to the point where it made 2 holes in his bone. One into his tear duct and the other into the space between his skin and his skull. In short strep grew into a bone infection, and now the bone infection is in his skull.

As of the week of Mar 8, 2024:

Rowan had emergency surgery this week to scrape some of the infection from the bone. The good news is the infection did not make it's way into the brain. However, he's not out of the woods yet.

Next Steps:

Rowan needs a second surgery which requires both a plastic and neurosurgeon. During the next surgery, they will open up his head, remove both the left and right sinuses which will then allow the brain to just fill in the space going forward so it doesn't happen again. They will also add bone grafts to the holes to patch them up so nothing like this ever happens again. However, this surgery won't happen for another 4-6 weeks, because they can't do bone grafts while there is still infection in the bone. To remove the infection Rowan is going to have to be on IV antibiotics until then. One dose is several hundred dollars. This will ensure there is no infection present when they do the next surgery.
