Hello I'm Ellis....i'm 13 years old and i would like to raise a substantial amount of money for Return to Normandy by rowing the equivalent of the distance of Portsmouth to Normandy which is 126miles. I aim to complete this challenge during the May Half Term Holiday just before the 73rd DDay Anniversary.
Return to Normandy is a charity based in Portsmouth which raises money to escort veterans of the DDAY Landings back to Normandy for the celebrations which take place annually in June.
Each veteran is accompanied by a companion alongside medical staff and a team of volunteers who make sure that the trip is everything they want it to be. RTN make it possible for each veteran to be able to visit places personal to them & their experiences and to attend memorial ceremonies at the cemeteries where there comrades are buried.
Another important aspect of their work is the legacy trips they run with veterans & children side by side so they can share their stories in the hope that their sacrifices won't be forgotten.
I have been fortunate enough to go on one of these trips and it is an experience i shall never forget. This is my inspiration to try my hardest to raise as much money as possible. Thankyou for reading my story.
