Hi, my name is Renee Akin. I am Amy Houck's mom. As you already know, Amy has been through SO MUCH during the past two years with Leukemia. Unfortunately, two weeks after she and Noah were married, she got very sick! She was then diagnosed with Philadelphia Chromosome-Chronic Myeloid Leukemia. I was actually afraid it was Covid...needless to say, I wish that were all it was!
Amy has gone through two bone marrow transplants. One in October 2021 and March 2022. Since she was hospitalized in October, she has gone through way more than anyone could ever imagine. She has been the toughest, strongest fighter of cancer I have ever seen!!! We have come close to losing her several times since February of this year.
As of April 22nd, we were notified that her cancer was totally gone from her body. The second donor's cells had developed 100% in her body, and her bone marrow was totally clear of cancer cells. We were so excited to see this precious girl get to that point and get such fantastic news.
Since then, she has had to go to Sarah Cannon about three days per week for checkups; therefore, she and Noah have still not gotten back home to Maryville. They have been having to pay for their apartment and electricity every single month, and no one has lived in the apartment since last October!
Well, now we have received some very upsetting news! She was diagnosed with a lot of leukemia cells in her spinal fluid. This has been causing severe pain in her back, legs, and head. She has been suffering with this pain way too much recently! None of her pain meds would even take the slightest bit of pain away. She went in for her checkup two days ago, and they decided to admit her back into Sarah Cannon to do a CT and a spinal tap to see where this pain was coming from. We cannot believe our precious daughter has got to go through ROUND TWO of cancer!!!
With all this poor couple has dealt with over the past couple of years of being married, they are in vital need of financial assistance. They have to pay for the (unused) apartment, pay Noah's hospital bills from his 11 days in Centennial in December (with Sepsis), and try to cover all of Amy's medical expenses, prescriptions, and other bills to cover.
We would be so very thankful for any donations for this sweet couple. They are trying to take care of everything, but it is even more complex with Amy being out of work as a special education teacher for two years! More bills will hit them hard with round two of her cancer fight!
We also want to ask everyone to continue with prayers for Amy. God answered them for her before, and I know he will AGAIN!!! He listens to all of your prayers for her and knows she is a strongly loved girl! Thank you, everyone, for your continued love and support. Our family loves all of you for your prayers and assistance!
God bless you!!!
