After a move to Topeka, due to health issues at Colorado altitude, I purchased a property that turned out to be loaded with problems from previous owners. Sorting all that out has now taken 9 months, and we’re not done. I’ve had to eat through all the money I had saved for construction here, while spending extra on new surveys, etc. still to come are more surveys, new plat, recording fees, and more. I’m still some time away from actually being able to get a building permit, so am living in the non-demo part of my small house, with no bathroom since last summer. And now, I’m facing new medical challenges, including likely mouth cancer (according to my oncologist, to be confirmed next week), and insurance that just billed me for $10,000 from last year…… I don’t know why. As I move to having to live on social security only, this all suddenly becomes pretty heavy.
