Rouge Petals: Short Film

“When Princess Penelope convinces the King to call off their arranged marriage, Prince Adrian goes to new heights to win back his destined lover.”

Rouge Petals is a student short film based in Wilmington, inspired by fantasy adjacent films like the The Princess Bride (1987), Howl's Moving Castle (2004), and The Green Knight (2021). The script was selected by Flicker Film Society members in a blind vote for our Spring semester production.

Each semester, the Flicker Film Society produces a short film with the goal of giving members an environment to learn new skills and flex their creative strengths. Our process is intended to give students experience working on a larger crew— 52 people this semester— and we spend months in the pre-production planning phase before carrying out our multi-day shoot. Your donation will go towards fostering the growth of a new and exciting generation of filmmakers as well as helping them put their unique perspectives on screen.

Here's how your donation will be used:

Craft Services - 50%

Art Department - 40%

Contingency - 10%

Donors who are not anonymous will have their names listed in the film’s credits.

Meet the Team:

Deven Kapoor (Writer and Director)

Deven Kapoor is an aspiring writer, editor, and director in his Sophomore year at UNCW. While he's set his sights on Wilmington's Pre Law program, he is heavily involved as a Film & Communications double major. Having worked on several student-led productions for Flicker Film Society, including last year's Kappa Alpha Kill and Dead Weight, Deven has grown to love working with Wilmington's community of filmmakers. Deven plans to keep creating films post-graduation as a creative outlet for storytelling.

Kieran McKeon (Production Designer)

Kieran McKeon is an amateur filmmaker in her second year at UNCW. She is enrolled as a film major with a personal interest in anthropology, literature, and the creative arts. Through Flicker Film Society, Kieran has gained a great amount of information, experience, and appreciation for the art form by contributing to nearly a dozen short films, including three of Flicker’s main semesterly productions: Kappa Alpha Kill, Dead Weight, and is reprising her role as production designer on Saboteurs. Kieran aims to use her insights to create meaningful and entertaining films post graduation.

Ruby Schweitzer (Producer)

Ruby Schweitzer is a senior at UNCW and the President of Flicker. As a film student, her primary focuses are in cinematography and experimental film, having worked as a director of photography for both undergrad and graduate projects. Rouge Petals is her sixth semester production with Flicker, and second as producer.

Jack Knight (Producer)

Jack Knight is a Junior at UNCW, and the Vice President of Flicker Film Society. He has been a member of the club since 2022, and this is his 5th production with the club. He has produced various short sketches and films with his peers, with a focus in editing and writing. He aspires to continue producing short films, documentary, and feature films someday.
