WHO ARE WE?
RotaCare Richmond Free Medical Clinic is a volunteer-run clinic that provides health care to those who have the greatest need and are least able to afford it. We do this entirely with a staff of volunteer doctors, nurses, interpreters, receptionists, and others all serving an essential role in delivering care to these patients.
That's why OUR PATIENTS PAY $0 AT OUR CLINIC.
While the recently passed Affordable Care Act (ACA) has helped thousands of previously uninsured residents get health coverage, many people still fall through the cracks. Many of the patients we see have deferred much needed care because they can’t afford it. About 90 percent of our patients are living at or below the poverty level.
That’s where we come in. We are the safety net below the safety net.
Since March 2013, we have served nearly 1,000 uninsured patients and totaled more than 2,000 visits at our weekly Tuesday evening clinics, which are operating at capacity. At almost every weekly clinic, patients appear with untreated and deferred treatment for hypertension, diabetes, asthma, arthritis and other serious disorders. Helping patients overcome their ailments and restore their health not only allows them to live their lives without worries but it also enhances their ability to contribute to the society. Being able to achieve these goals give us great satisfaction.
WHY ARE WE REACHING OUT TO YOU?
On April 2015, Doctors Medical Center, the nearest hospital to Richmond/San Pablo (West Contra Costa County), closed its doors. Although an urgent care clinic opened its doors across the street from the now closed hospital, many patients, especially, the uninsured have nowhere to go. The number of patients coming to our doors has been increasing steadily. Since we can only see so many patients in a day, we have had to turn away many of them.
HERE is where we need your help.
We are raising funds to open a NEW clinic and also add additional days to keep up with the number of patients currently calling to schedule appointments. The new clinic will enable us to serve more uninsured patients and provide more services and specialties.
WHAT DOES YOUR DONATIONS COVER?
Your generous donations will cover fees for medical equipment and supplies, as well as help us cover our costs for blood tests, X-rays, prescriptions and other related items. To all those who make contributions and provide us with support—thank you for helping us continue this substantial humanitarian effort.
