Ross Pawsitivity- Saving Lives One Paw At A Time

Before Ross University School of Medicine allowed students to come home due to the virus outbreak, I founded a school club called Ross Pawsitivity. RP is a student group that focuses on helping a specific animal shelter, Ocean Acres Animal Sanctuary, with volunteering, fundraising, adoption events, collecting shelter donations, etc. Unfortunately, the majority of us left school to return home, so this massive shelter is being left to run by ONE insanely strong woman and her team of only four others.
Ocean Acres is a no-kill shelter that is provided with NO FUNDING. It is run by Karen Whittaker, who took over the care of 45 dogs and 69 cats when The Hope Sanctuary closed down. You can guess what would’ve happened to these sweet babies if she hadn’t taken over. By stepping in, she provided food, veterinary care, love, and her own time and money to save countless animal lives. Through her selflessness, she has given these fur babies another chance at life after they’ve been let down and forgotten about by everyone else. She makes sure each dog gets love, attention, and exercise (even walks to the beach for time to splash around in the ocean!)
The problem: Because of the COVID situation, SO many people have dumped their animals to Karen at the shelter. OAAS is in urgent need of financial help. Karen and the four others are now left to take care of 70 dogs and 50 cats with NO financial support and NO volunteer or fundraising help due to COVID.
I know it’s a tough time for everyone right now. I know jobs are up in the air, money may be tight, people are unsure about what’s going to happen next in their lives..I get it. But if you are in a financial position where you can help, PLEASE consider donating. Absolutely anything helps! Any amount you can give will help to save a life. OAAS is the most deserving place I can think of for a donation to go, and Karen has a heart of gold for continuing to pour herself into making sure OAAS stays open. The animals are desperate for help as they have no one else to look out for them.
