On August 15, 2021 Roslyn Burse was called home to be with the Lord. She leaves behind 9 children and and 8 grandchildren.
Roslyn Burse was born and raised in Stockton, CA where she was a loving mother who devoted her life to her family, friends and community.
Roslyn was a giant in the realm of community organizing. She loved her community so much, and she believed everyone should be able to live with dignity. She was a soldier for Christ, and was a living example of what it meant to love your neighbor as you would love yourself. She fought tirelessly for equality, racial justice, equity, economic justice, education and schools, community development, environmental justice, mental health and various opportunities, especially in South Stockton.
South Stockton was the community that raised and shaped her into a fierce resilient leader. She was a trailblazer and beacon of hope for our community. She promoted health, unity, healing , education, transformative justice, community justice and so much more. She was so deeply committed to improving the quality of life for black and brown communities and creating cradle to career opportunities for neighborhoods. She dreamed and believed that one day we too would reach the promised land for South Stockton. She dreamed of freedom and opportunities for the next generation and actively worked to improve conditions for young black and brown children and youth in her hometown and throughout CA. Roslyn spent countless hours, over the last decade, organizing with many community based organizations working and volunteering. She was one of the founding members of Reinvent South Stockton Coalition and Community trust builders, community outreach specialist with STAND, volunteer with PICO a faith based racial justice organization, Steering Committee for San Joaquin Faith in the Valley, and a volunteer for First 50 and First 50 mom. She worked and advocated for campaigns like Prop 47, a campaign to remove records and barriers for formerly incarcerated people, she worked and advocated for better school policies like school disciplinary policies, students with disabilities , foster and homeless youth, after school programs, tutoring and culturally relative programs and curriculum, as well as, parent and guardian resources for families.
Roslyn was the ultimate example of what it meant to be a good neighbor. We hope you can support the family to lay her to rest. We are raising funds to pay for her services and support the family during this transition.
Thank You in Advance.
