ROSIE the cockatiel NEEDS SURGERY

Hi everyone. My name is Rosie. I had a rough start to my life. I was abused and neglected when I was a baby. Someone cut off a portion of my left wing during a wing clip. I then met my mum and she brought me to the vet because she knew there was something wrong with my wing. An x-ray confirmed that my injury was indeed caused by trauma. The avian vet said that I will never fly again. They have tried everything to heal my wound.

I have had many vet visits and multiple dressing changes. Our avian specialist has determined that due to the way my wing was cut off, my new feathers will be growing in at an awkward and in an unnatural way. This is causing me a lot of pain. Those feathers will constantly bleed or break off until it re-grows again, and then the cycle continues.

The vet wants me to go through surgery. They said they want to surgically remove my feather follicles to stop those painful feathers from re-growing. And once it heals, they will put a stump sock on my wing to protect it! This plan sounds amazing and will keep me comfortable. But unfortunately, the vet said if this does not work. Then they will have to remove my entire left wing completely. I don't want that to happen.

The vet would like to do this surgery in 4-6 weeks so then I can start tolerating my stump sock. She said the sooner the better. Unfortunately, the vet fees are quite expensive. My mum is already working full time and picking up extra shifts at the children's hospital where she works. But she still needs help due to our current cost of living prices.
