Shane and Ciara here, proud parents to Rosie the Sphynx.

About two months ago Rosie was diagnosed with a condition called Corneal Sequestrum, which is affecting both of her eyes. Basically, there are spots of necrotic, inflamed corneal tissue that have formed on either eye that need to be surgically removed and grafted over to prevent further eye damage and/or complications.

According to the veterinarians, this is a pretty rare condition specific to cats. The underlying conditions that are capable of causing it seem to be fairly common, however the chances of actually developing Corneal Sequestrum, especially in both eyes, is very uncommon. The procedure is promising, but very involved, and much more expensive than we had anticipated.

The eye specialist has laid out a detailed estimate totaling $6,435. We do have insurance for Rosie but due to timeframe complications / pre-existing conditions it will not cover this treatment. The payment plans provided by the vet clinic only allow financing for about half the estimated amount, and we unfortunately do not have nearly enough in savings or on credit cards that we can realistically afford something like this. We wouldn’t be asking for help unless we were seriously in a bind.

Rosie is the sweetest baby chicken and I know she has made lots of friends in her four years. If you’ve met her, you know how precious this little stinker is. She is comfortable at the moment but this operation needs to be done sooner rather than later to prevent it from getting worse. Again, resorting to this is not our first choice by any means, but we desperately need assistance with this. Any help whatsoever would be so greatly appreciated!
