Rosie Needs Urgent Dental Surgery

Hi, my name is Rosie and I am having an apicoectomy performed in June. Although it is medically necessary, it is not covered by my insurance. At all.

Breakdown of costs:

Apicoectomy: $3,250
Biopsy: $2,700
Prefabricated Post and Core placement: $2800

If left untreated, the infection will only get worse and could lead to sepsis and kill me. I did not realize it was this serious until my most recent flair up. I have had an infection in my bone above my teeth for 15 years now- I would take antibiotics when it caused pain thinking the medicine got rid of it. However, antibiotics only lessen the infection, not eliminate it. If I continue to only take antibiotics instead of getting it removed, the infection could become antibiotic-resistant, making much more difficult to cure and leading to serious complications. I have put off getting any procedures done because I previously thought it was purely cosmetic (it will effect my front teeth) but it was explained by doctor how serious this is.

I am a high school teacher, a single mom of two boys, and I have no familial support or anyone helping me financially. I will be completely transparent, I have never been well off financially. I have struggled on my own, never asking anyone for help with money. I was raised with a boot straps mentality and I felt shame in ever needing help. But I am in disbelief of the cost of this procedure, and I need to take my health seriously. I know deserve help and good health, so I am bravely asking my friends, those who are close to me, and anyone who can help to consider donating to help me cover the cost of this surgery. It will greatly help improve my quality of life- I will be rid of daily mouth pain and I won't have anxiety over this infection worsening.

The story behind this infection: When I was 8, my sister threw a yo-yo at me, broke my tooth. No big deal, get it capped and move on. I get braces when I am 16, everything is fine. When the braces come off at 17, I begin to have swelling in my face and it HURTS. I had a huge abscess. Endodontist drains it with a double root canal. It kills my teeth, I have crowns placed on them. (The photo on the left is my tooth greying because it died after the root canal.) The root canals were incomplete, the crowns are done improperly. The area is reinfected by the time I am 20. And it has stayed like that. I am 33 now. It's time to get this healed.
