Our English setter, Rose, is in constant pain. A bone infection has damaged both her front legs, and she can barely walk. On 30 October she has surgery to give her left leg a chance to heal, and that is only the start. We need to raise £3500 to see her through.
Where your money goes
- Surgery on 30 October
- Antibiotics, scans and aftercare
- Future surgery on her right leg
Every donation, however small, helps, and every pound goes straight to her vet bills.
Rose’s story
Rose was found in Cyprus with both front legs broken. She was only 2 or 3 years old. Her rescuers, Yeliz and Bahar, got her straight to a vet, and in January she had surgery on both legs. Against the odds, she learned to walk again.
Neil and I saw her and fell in love. We adopted her and brought her home to the UK, and she blossomed. Rose is a very loving and affectionate dog. She loves to socialise and revels in all the attention she gets, and she throws her soft toys around until she’s completely giddy. She was gaining confidence every day and loving her walks. She is one of the best behaved dogs we have ever had.
Then, on a walk, Rose hurt her left leg and the pain never went away. Scans showed why: an infection had got into the bone around her implants, the metal was coming loose, and the bone was breaking down. Her vets think Lyme disease may be behind it. Her bones are now so fragile that there is a risk they could fracture again.
Her specialist has a plan. Once she has finished her antibiotics, he will operate on 30 October to remove a screw that he thinks is stopping her left leg from fusing. When that leg is healing, he will turn to her right leg, which has set out of line. Alongside all of this, Rose has leishmaniasis, a disease she will need treatment for for the rest of her life. The good news is that her blood tests, kidneys and liver are all healthy, so she has a strong base to recover from.
It’s going to be a very long, drawn-out process with a lot of risks, but we’ll go along with whatever her specialist thinks can help her. Because her injuries happened before she came to us, her insurance won’t cover any of this treatment. We’ve already paid for months of scans, tests and treatment, and we feel more positive now, even though we know we have a very rough journey ahead of us.
Rose has already survived more than most dogs ever face, and she still greets everyone with love. Anyone who loves a dog knows you’d do anything for them, and how quickly the vet bills can mount up. Any help with the costs ahead would mean the world to us. Please donate if you can and share Rose’s page. Every share reaches someone who might help her walk pain-free again.
Thank you so much.
