We are organizing this fundraiser to help offset the significant medical costs incurred, ensuring Roscoe can get his jaw surgery and recover from a car accident to be able to come home to his biggest fan, Sadie, who has asked about him endlessly since Monday night.
On Monday night, 4/11, Roscoe got distracted chasing a vulture. While everyone called him off the bird, and, it seems he slowed down to stop his chase, he didn't do it soon enough. Unfortunately, a car was coming in that lane a bit too close to the shoulder and driveway, and while looking up, Roscoe ran into the car, hitting his lower jaw and head off the bumper/fender of an SUV. (The driver did stop, was apologetic; it wasn't his fault, just a poorly timed freak accident)
We rushed Roscoe to the emergency vet for treatment, and luckily, his injuries seem to be isolated to just his jaw and face. Unfortunately, his jaw is severely damaged and will require intricate surgery to repair.
The hospital has CareCredit on file for Roscoe. However, his bills are significant as he undergoes additional diagnostic imaging and support care. There are still more bills to come once he is fully stable and can get the jaw repair surgery later this week following a CT scan to isolate all of the fractures. Those bills will, unfortunately, exceed the CareCredit limit. He will also need a special diet once he can go home until his jaw heals enough to allow him to get back to eating all of Sadie's abandoned snacks. (Which we all know he can't wait to do!)
Please donate if you can, and if you can't, please share. 100% of the proceeds will go to Roscoe's medical bills and pay off the CareCredit card. The current balance owed is approximately $4,000, and the CT scan and surgery estimates total another $7,500 (best case low end) to $11,500 (worst case high end), barring any unforeseen complications. There will also be follow-up care required as his jaw heals, depending on how the doctors choose to repair it. They need to use CT imaging to decide if they will be able to remove his damaged teeth and wire the jaw or if it will require fixing it with plates.
Roscoe is in GREAT spirits, is standing and walking and snuggling, and he cannot wait to get out of that crate and come home and sleep on his couch with his baby. He has no signs of brain swelling, no fractures anywhere else in his body, and his lungs look great.
Roscoe is scheduled to have his CT scan Wednesday, 4/13, and then will undergo surgery on 4/14. With so much life left to live with his Sadie, we had to do anything to bring Roscoe home.
We know everyone can't wait to have everybody's favorite Weasel back in the barn, and we appreciate everyone who can help us make that happen a little bit easier.
Love, Roscoe's Family
