Help Roscoe Beat Canine Pheochromoctyoma

Hello everyone, my name is Laura and I have started this gofundme for my dachshund, Roscoe.

Roscoe is a sweet and energetic little dog that is often by my side. Although small, he has a big playful and sociable personality. He insists that he greets everyone he meets.

Roscoe has always been a healthy dog until recently when I noticed some subtle but sudden changes in addition to periods of diarrhea and vomiting. His veterinarian insisted nothing was wrong and that he was just getting older after several rounds of blood work came back with phenomenal results.

After seeking a second opinion it was suggested that Roscoe undergo x-rays and an ultrasound. The ultrasound revealed that Roscoe had developed a 1.6 cm tumor on his right adrenal gland with suspected invasion of his caudal vena cava. The CVC is a major vein in the body if not the largest. After referring to a surgical specialist who then referred us to an imaging center for a CT scan, we found out that the tumor had major invasion of the CVC. The tumor also has resulted to be a pheochromocytoma. It is one of the rarest tumors, only 1-2% of tumors are pheochromocytoma. At this time it does not appear to be cancerous as it has not metastasized.

Due to the severity of the invasion, we were then referred to a board certified veterinary oncologist in San Diego. The specialist let us know that the tumor is indeed operable but due to the complexity of the surgery and seriousness of the tumor invasion that we would need to act quickly if we wanted to operate. An adrenalectomy would be Roscoe’s best chance of resolving his issue but also the most risky.

We were also informed of a secondary option called stereotactic radiation in which a radiologist would use a laser to target the cancer cells specifically to reduce the size of the tumor. Although this would not cure Roscoe it would buy us some time with him.

Unfortunately both treatments are each in the range of $12,000 - $14,000. This is on top of the $6,000 that we have already spent just to find out what was wrong with Roscoe. If we do not opt for a treatment, Roscoe will only survive for a few months as he is at risk of thrombosis (also known as a blood clot which would result in death) or the tumor rupturing his caudal vena cava. Other than the tumor, Roscoe’s energy and overall health have returned to their normal levels. I don’t believe that Roscoe is ready to give up yet and neither are we. He is my best friend and the love of my life and I am not ready to lose him. Any donations regardless of size are greatly appreciated.

If you are unable to donate, please help share this gofundme. Or help share his tiktok videos so we can reach a larger audience (lilweenbigsnacks).
