On November 9, 2023, after seeming lethargic and not his playful self we decided to take Rosco into the vet. That day our family was heartbroken after finding out our baby Rosco was going into heart failure. They found that Rosco's body was building up with fluid in all of his body cavities (tri-cavity effusion). That night Rosco's survival and diagnoses were unsure. After a night of hospitalization, Rosco was stable and it was learned he had a benign heart tumor that was causing his heart to overproduce fluid that would accumulate in the pericardium and over time into his lung and abdominal cavities. This will cause heart failure and death if left untreated.
After his first visit, hospitalization and diagnostics our charges ran up to $5200. As we have been waiting to receive a life saving heart surgery to create a pericardial window to relieve the pressure on the heart and allow the fluid to drain, he has built up again and has needed (so far) two more pericardial taps on 11/24 and 12/1. The two taps amounted to an additional $2800. As we wait for his surgery date on 12/12, and pray for a call to get him in sooner, we fear we will be unable to afford the surgery ($6500 not including overnight hospitalization) as the additional pericardial taps are becoming more frequent and necessary for his survival. Our vet has said that Rosco is a otherwise happy, healthy boy and getting this surgery is the only way he will survive.
As our family can't bare the thought of losing him. We are asking for your help during this heart breaking time. Anything is appreciated and everything helps!
