Rosa began feeling ill around late June to early July. After several visits to doctors and hospitals with no clear answers, her pain continued to worsen. Eventually, she was admitted to St. Luke’s in The Woodlands, where they performed the first biopsy. She stayed there for about a week before being transferred to St. Luke’s downtown for a second biopsy.

Within two weeks, we received the initial diagnosis: stage 3 plasmatic lymphoma. She was then transferred to MD Anderson, where they conducted their own biopsy, including one of the lymph nodes in her neck and a bone marrow biopsy.

Treatment was scheduled to begin on a Monday, but her doctor decided to delay and start her on strong steroids first. The plan was to begin chemotherapy on Tuesday. However, the doctor received a call from the lab suggesting that the diagnosis from St. Luke’s might be incorrect. After further review, it turned out that St. Luke’s had misdiagnosed her condition. It was still stage 3 lymphoma, but a different type.

Her treatment officially began this past Wednesday with her first round of chemotherapy. By Friday, she was discharged with a detailed action plan.

Rosa is a proud mother/stepmother to Clayton (16), Mason (15), Joey (15), Mikey (13), and Cheyenne (8). Her loving husband is Christopher (Boo) Guy.

As you can imagine this illness has completely caught the entire family by surprise. Rosa's amazing boss has helped immensely, but with this diagnosis she will not be able to return to work. This is where we can all step-in to help out. As little or as much as you can donate is always appreciated. We will be holding a few fundraiser functions as well, so please keep in touch with the family, and look for updates on facebook as well.
