As some of you may know, on November 8th, 2020, our beloved Aunt Rosa Alvarez was hospitalized for COVID-19 symptoms and progressively started declining. She was eventually transferred to the Intensive Care Unit due to her body’s increase in oxygen requirements and complications from the virus (collapsed lung, abnormal heart rates, several blood transfusions).

She remained on the ventilator for several weeks and unfortunately was not successfully able to breathe on her own without the assistance of the ventilator and now has a tracheostomy. A tracheostomy is surgical procedure in which an incision is made in the neck, making a direct airway through the trachea giving her lungs the support they need. Through all these complications, Rosa persevered and was stable enough to be moved to a rehabilitation center that specializes in respiratory related care for patients with tracheostomies a few days before Christmas and is currently being monitored daily in regards to her progression.

Rosa is a loving mother to her daughter, Yolanda, and two sons Jose and Luis, and a devoted wife and grandmother. Our cousin, Yolanda Bolanos, has been working tirelessly and diligently with learning and keeping up to date with her mother’s care on a daily basis while working full time and taking over as head of household. Just as her mother has been fighting so has Yolanda, she has been an inspiration to our family and a rock of strength for her mother and brothers. This is why we ask our family and friends for any donations to alleviate the family of medical expenses incurred during the hospital stay and for rehabilitation.

If you are able to assist with this financial burden, any donations would be greatly appreciated. All funds raised will go directly to Rosa’s medical costs and related recovery treatment. Rosa has a long recovery ahead of her and our hope is that financial difficulties will not be an obstacle in her way!

Como algunos de ustedes sabrán, el 8 de noviembre de 2020, nuestra querida tía Rosa Álvarez fue hospitalizada por síntomas de COVID-19 y comenzó a disminuir progresivamente. Finalmente fue trasladada a la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos debido al aumento de las necesidades de oxígeno de su cuerpo y las complicaciones del virus (colapso pulmonar, frecuencia cardíaca anormal, varias transfusiones de sangre).

Permaneció con el ventilador durante varias semanas y, lamentablemente, no pudo respirar por sí sola sin la ayuda del ventilador y ahora tiene una traqueotomía. Una traqueotomía es un procedimiento quirúrgico en el que se hace una incisión en el cuello, haciendo una vía aérea directa a través de la tráquea que le da a sus pulmones el apoyo que necesitan. A través de todas estas complicaciones, Rosa perseveró y se mantuvo lo suficientemente estable como para ser trasladada a un centro de rehabilitación que se especializa en cuidados respiratorios para pacientes con traqueotomías unos días antes de Navidad y actualmente está siendo monitoreada diariamente con respecto a su progresión.

Rosa es una madre cariñosa para su hija, Yolanda, y sus dos hijos José y Luis, y es una esposa y abuela devota. Nuestra prima, Yolanda Bolaños, ha estado trabajando incansable, diligentemente aprendiendo y manteniendose al día con el cuidado de su madre, trabaja a tiempo completo y se hace cargo de la familia. Así como su madre ha estado luchando, Yolanda también ha sido una inspiración para nuestra familia y una piedra de fuerza para su madre y sus hermanos. Es por eso que pedimos a nuestros familiares y amigos cualquier donación para aliviar a la familia de los gastos médicos incurridos durante la estadía en el hospital y para la rehabilitación.

Si puede ayudar con esta carga financiera, cualquier donación será muy apreciada. Todos los fondos recaudados irán directamente a los costos médicos de Rosa y al tratamiento de recuperación relacionado. Rosa tiene una larga recuperación por delante y esperamos que las dificultades económicas no sean un obstáculo en su camino.
