Rosa's son explains everything that his mother has been going through since mid-June:
Hi, my name is Diego, I am Rosa's son. I really appreciate all of Menasha Packaging Company & all of my mom's coworkers. We are really going through a rough time because it's just me, my little brother and my mom.
On June 16th my mom lacked lots of air and kept going unconscious so we took her to Clara Mass hospital where she was put into the Intensive Care Unit. The doctors believed that fluid from her blood vessels ruptured and entered her pulmonary system and was causing her to suffocate. They gave her medication and IVs to drain the fluid but she was getting worse and worse.
Two days passed in the ICU with doctors running lots of screenings & tests. Finally, a cardiologist came in and ran an echo and other tests for her heart. The cardiologist said that my mom had to be transported about an hour away to Englewood Hospital, as they are well known as a heart surgical hospital with very good cardio surgery. The doctor said she had to get an open heart surgery done that same day because she had a large tumor in her heart and a day could make the difference of whether or not she would survive. My mom's tumor was blocking her heart from properly functioning and it was closing all her airways. She could have died at any moment from a heart attack or suffocation if she did not get the surgery.
They performed open heart surgery that same day that lasted about 5-6 hours. Her mitral valve was fixed, as well. My mom stayed in intensive care for about 1 week until she was released from full-time care of two nurses monitoring her for potential post-surgery complications. At that time they were also able to take her off of the pacemaker, tubes of medication and IVs. My mom then spent another week in another heart department in the hospital outside of the ICU. My mom still isn't fully recovered and cannot speak easily, but she is working toward healing.
Thank you so much for your interest in my mom! We are truly grateful for it because we are going through a rough time that caught all of us by complete surprise. Anything that you can give will help take some of the financial burden off of our family and take some stress off of my mom so she can focus on getting better. Thank you, again.
