EDIT 1/6/2026:

I'm literally at a loss for words, you guys

The generosity from everyone is something I could never imagine being worthy of, but you guys have no idea how making this surgery possible even despite this speedbump is going to change my life

Thank you all so very, very, very much, I'm in (happy) tears

Some clarification I got throughout the games of phone tag today:

-this is not my insurance doing this, this is apparently a practice that some hospitals are doing now. they run your insurance to see your deductible, go "oh well you'll probably meet that anyway, we require it as a deposit", despite it being based on purely an estimated charge and before anything is actually run THROUGH your insurance. this is somehow legal.
-my doctor who deemed this procedure medically necessary had no idea this facility does this. I spoke with the office's financial staff, they told me to speak with the facility's financial aid to see what we can do
-which I did. I am waiting on a call back from them tomorrow to see if they can lower or waive the deposit, as they gave me only 2 weeks to come up with that sum
-I was browsing posts like this and saw that this is a relatively common (and frustrating) occurrence
-My doctor's office made it clear if financial aid can't work with me on this, we have the option to do it somewhere else who won't do this to me
-That said, we did reach the goal, so if they are forcing me to pay that up front, YOU all have made that possible, and I thank you again. Luckily, the payment goes towards my deductible as well.

Should they be willing to work with me, I can offer refunds to those who want it. However, if you would like your donation to remain, I will put it towards the final bill after we receive it and post proof of payment.

Again, I cannot thank you guys enough for your help. This surgery is going to be life changing for me.

-------------------------------------------

Greetings, friends!

As many of you know, I suffer from severe endometriosis (adenomyosis specifically) which is a condition that affects AFABs that causes uterine lining to grow outside of or into the walls of one's uterus. This causes severe pain during menstruation, but these pains can last the majority of the month in many cases, depending on severity. As you can imagine, this drastically affects my quality of life to the point where some weeks I am not able to function normally. Many of you may have seen this through my posting across various social media.

After the pain had gotten more severe these last few months of 2025 and after what we were worried might be cancer (it was not, thankfully), I did qualify for a hysterectomy, which we set up and scheduled for January 21st.

EDIT: going back and forth between the hospital and everything, turns out the $3.2k is the DEPOSIT needed for the procedure to happen.

On 1/6/2026, when I went in for my pre-operation interview and getting me registered with the hospital, I was told that apparently even though deemed medically necessary, because my situation is not an "emergency", it is deemed "elective" by my insurance (United, of course.) and because of that, my deductible is due up front on or before my surgery date. I wish I had known this a month ago when we scheduled, because I was under the impression that they would bill my insurance and I would be able to set up a payment plan.

With the way feminine healthcare is going with the current administration, my worry (and that of my doctor) is that I will not qualify, or even have this opportunity in the future.

I currently have an application in to my credit union for a personal loan to see if we can get this covered given the time frame I have to secure this, in which case if I am able to secure it, I can offer refunds to any donors, but I'm trying to cover my bases just in case. We do have a little money to put towards it ourselves, but could use the help regardless.

I apologize also for dropping this last minute; I wish I had known this a month ago so I could have prepared for it better.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as well as sharing around. As I said, if i can secure the loan from my credit union, I am happy to offer refunds to donors.

Thank you all~

-Rory
