The COVID pandemic stole my dad...
But... I will not let it steal our memories...
My name is Shashi Kerai and I am 1 of the 3 sons of Vishram Devji Kerai. I wanted to take the next couple of minutes to remember and cherish the memories of my dad.
Vishram Devji Kerai was born on April 13, 1950 in the region of Kutch in Bhuj, India. His parents were farmers that lived modestly and taught their children the value of hard work and honesty. At a young age, he took a deep liking for all the different plants and trees and nature.
At the age of 23, my dad left everything he knew behind in his mother country to move to the United Kingdom, never forgetting his fond childhood memories working alongside his parents on their farm. It is in the UK that Vishram got married and had a family. He raised me and my siblings with the same values of hard work and honesty that he grew up with.
My fondest memories growing up were to watch my dad grow plants in anything and everything. Our home was filled with plants - there were plants hanging from the ceiling, in bottles, bowls, and pots. My siblings and I watched him flourish as his plants grew from mere saplings to plants and trees that boar flowers or fruits. There is nothing he loved more than being surrounded by the touch of nature.
Our family is one of the millions of families around the world that lost a loved one to the Covid-19 pandemic. My dad lost his battle to the virus at the age of 70 on November 17, 2020 and leaves behind his wife, three sons, and four grandchildren that deeply love and want to respect his legacy.
As life passes from the human form to the next dimension, we are proud to launch “Roots for Life” to raise funds to plant trees that will have a lasting impact on our planet for generations to come. All of the proceeds will go to Cauvery Calling. I encourage you to visit, Cauvery Calling, to see the amazing work being done by this foundation to increase green cover in the State of Tamil Nadu, India. Our goal is to plant 70,000 trees.
