Roots 2Empower

The inspiration for Roots 2Empower is my brother Kenneth, 5 years during the 90s. After he served his time, he returned to the community, trying to find work in the construction industry. He was met with employers not wanting to hire him because of his felony record. Unable to find work and with some coaxing from us, we convinced him to open his own construction business. My brother had been taking vocational classes in construction prior to his incarceration and had a natural gift for interior construction and design. So, I co-signed for his first van and assisted with purchasing tools and made business cards. That was 25 years ago, and his business is still thriving.

Root 2Empower’s mission is to break the cycle of poverty by increasing career and small business pathways to increase financial security.

Roots 2Empower’s vision is to improve the lives of men of color in the urban cores of Rhode Island and beyond by investing in local agriculture and food production.

We are seeking funding to install water on our urban farm and fencing to secure the land. Thank you for your donation!
