Nurturing a safe, inclusive and just Catholic Church.

Since our inception five years ago, you, our R&B supporters, have enabled us to hold numerous events and to reach thousands of people worldwide. Our community brings hundreds of seekers together monthly or more, to listen, search, and share our stories.

We held our first lay-led, international live and online ground-breaking Synod in 2021 in Bristol UK. Our second Synod was in 2023 with Spirit Unbounded in Rome and Bristol. We then held a third international conference in Leeds UK in 2024 with Empowering Ourselves - Flourish and Thrive. In July 2025, we were a part of ‘Leadership and Legacy: The Future of Women in the Church’ organised by The Tablet and New Hall School in Chelmsford. You will find all these in our video archive.

We ask: what does a fourth-century-modelled Church, patriarchal, authoritarian and imperialist, have to do with the teachings of a simple fisherman, carpenter and pastoralist whose followers, women and men, met simply in their houses, praying, breaking bread and sharing the good news?

Why are women invisible to a male clericalism, and why do our children and grandchildren walk away from the Church, often in horror at the scandal of abuse, and its cover-up?

How your donation is used:

Root and Branch is run by a small Core team of dedicated volunteers doing everything from planning, researching, social media, letter-writing, networking and website maintenance, to enabling tech support, recordings, and video editing for our webinars and live events.

We give our time gladly, but your donations pay for the tools that keep Root and Branch running.

When Root & Branch began five years ago, we set a fundraising target of £25,000. Through your generosity, we achieved 82% of that original target, and your donations sustained us through those early years.

We are now raising the target to £45,000 which includes a further £20,000 to build on the past and help to build our future. This additional income will cover Root & Branch's running costs for one year and allow for expansion of our reach - by holding more events and/or an annual live conference.

Pam Perry

Pamela, wife, mother and grandmother, is a former Cafod key volunteer. As Administrator of London Jubilee, she was on the Boards of the Jubilee Debt Campaign and Make Poverty History, and organised World Debt Day for Guildford. She has written about and worked with refugees.

Pamela believes now is the time for Catholics to call for the transformation of the unaccountable, hierarchical Catholic Church into a humbler, democratic institution, in tune with the simple teachings of Jesus and the loving power of the Holy Spirit.
