ROOT & BRANCH Community for Reform
Nurturing a safe, inclusive and just Roman Catholic Church.

EMPOWERING OURSELVES
the emerging church.
Hinsley Hall
Leeds, LS6 2BX
30th Aug - 1st Sept.

Since our inception three years ago, you, our R&B supporters, have enabled us to hold numerous events. These have been international talks, shared evenings and two groundbreaking lay-led Synods, in 2021 and in 2024 with Spirit Unbounded, viewed on our website over 20,000 times already. R&B joins dozens of reform organisations demanding, like Pope Francis, an end to clericalism. But we also focus on you, in your parish - or perhaps outside of it.

If you feel alone sometimes, wondering why no-one else seems to think like you; why women are so invisible to a male clericalism and why our children and grandchildren walk away, often in horror at the scandal of abuse, then head over to our website www.rootandbranchsynod.org.

Empowering Ourselves at Hinsley Hall this autumn will give us time to take stock. How can we put 20% of our efforts into trying to change the institutional church, and 80% into trying to live as Jesus taught us?

It will also give us tools to take back with us, to empower others to begin asking questions and working for reform.

And over all, please pray for a just, an inclusive and a safe Church where our focus is to listen for the quiet promptings of beloved Sophia, our Holy Spirit of wisdom.

How your donation is used:

Everything we carry out - our planning, emails, newsletters and social media - is done by us volunteers.

We have to spend money to reach you, however, on techie stuff - website, media, recordings, video editing, online and real infrastructures. These big costs have to be found. But your support does it!

It’s you who enable us to keep the R&B show on the road.

THANK YOU!

PS It would really help us if you were able to donate a small amount monthly - just contact us through the website. Thank you so much!

About the organiser: Pam Perry

Pamela, wife, mother and grandmother, is a former Cafod key volunteer. As Administrator of London Jubilee, she was on the Boards of the Jubilee Debt Campaign and Make Poverty History and organised World Debt Day for Guildford. She has written about and worked with refugees.

Pamela believes now is the time for Catholics to call for the transformation of the unaccountable, hierarchical Catholic Church into a humbler, democratic institution, in tune with the simple teachings of Jesus and the loving power of the Holy Spirit.

Our inspiration is this magnificent Madonna by Elisabeth Frink, outside Salisbury Cathedral. She walks away from the building into the town - where all the people live.
