Root For Ryan Mercer in his Sarcoma Cancer Fight

Donation protected

Hi my name is Kat. I am reaching out to you today with a vulnerable and humble plea for support for Ryan Mercer and his family. Ryan is presently facing a challenging battle against cancer that has significantly impacted his life. I am sharing his story with permission in hopes of receiving your assistance as he continues to navigate through this trying time.

Throughout this past 18 months Ryan and his wife Michelle along with their close friends and family have tried to rallied together to support them both emotionally and financially. However, the costs are mounting, and there's still a long road ahead for Ryan.

In times like these, every bit of support counts. Whether it's sharing this post, donating whatever you can, or simply continuing to keep Ryan, Michelle, Jacob and Alex in your thoughts and prayers.

Please consider contributing to Ryan’s gofundme and help us ease the financial burden as he fights for his health.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your love, support, and generosity during this incredibly challenging time.

Ryan’s Fight

October of 2022 Ryan started having some pain and swelling in his left testicle. Over the next month he saw 4 different doctors who determined it was possibly a cancerous tumor and scheduled him in for surgery to have it removed. Surgery took place December 7, 2022 the day after his 40th birthday. The pathology report was not good. It determined that he had a mixed germ cell tumor that was cancerous and also contained a teratoma. The doctors waited a month to test his blood and do more Ctscans to see if the cancer or teratoma spread. In January 2023 his tumor markers in his blood work began rising and Ctscans showed that his lymph nodes in his abdomen were enlarged. They started him on 3 rounds of chemo in February 2023. After chemo finished his tumor markers were back to normal but the lymph nodes remained enlarged. The doctors thought that this must be a teratoma and scheduled surgery to remove it. Ryan had a 10hr surgery on August 2, 2023 at Toronto General. By September Ryan was beginning to feel better and looking forward to returning back to work after nearly a year off. We were all hopeful he was a survivor and he could put this past year out of mind and move forward cancer free. He went into his follow up appointment hoping to get a letter stating he could return to work. Unfortunately the pathology report from the lymph nodes determined that his teratomas, although extremely rare, had turned into a very aggressive new type of sarcoma cancer called PNET MTT. Ryan was immediately back into the hospital, put through a series of tests, had a PICC line put in. He received an initial dose Sept 20th and started a very aggressive chemo cycle starting Oct 12th 2023 which will last for 10-14months. While getting this chemo he stays at Mount Sinai and is unable to return back to work.
