Root and Rise Nature School

Hello friends, family, and community members!

It's been a year since the last fundraiser, and what a year it has been! Root and Rise Nature School has connected numerous children to nature through hands-on learning in the forest, garden, sensory play space, and schoolhouse Yurt. We have run successful preschool and summer camp programs and feel poised to continue this well into the future!

For the first time in my life, I am living out my purpose daily. Teaching children in nature has, in turn, taught me so much about myself and how I can help to create the world I wish to see. I am grateful for every second that I am blessed enough to live out this dream.

The preschool is thriving, we have nearly full enrollment, and we have the rhythm and space set up exactly how I had envisioned. Now it's time to take this dream a step further.

I need financial help this year in creating:

Afterschool Programming:

The Root and Rise Cedar Program will provide after-school nature immersion and learning opportunities for children ages 5-12. If I can secure enough funds, I will purchase a shuttle or passenger van that can be used to transport the kids to and from Beach Elementary to Root and Rise Nature School and back 2x/week. This program will help foster deep connections with the planet and one another through hands-on activities, games, art, music, and time in nature.

Activities will include:

  • Nature studies
  • survival skills
  • arts and crafts
  • music, games
  • group building/leadership activities
  • hiking
  • plant identification and conservation
  • basic carpentry/construction
  • organic gardening, and more!

Monthly classes for teens/adults:

These classes will provide hands-on learning opportunities for teens/adults with offerings such as:

  • Fiber arts
  • music lessons
  • knitting/crochet
  • herbal medicine preparation
  • wild foraging
  • wilderness survival skills, and more!

Outdoor play space expansion:

  • Music/art area
  • Obstacle course area
  • Worm composting system
  • Maintenance and upkeep

Continued ability to provide Sliding-scale tuition to families in need:

It is vital and of the utmost importance that children from ALL economic backgrounds can attend Root and Rise Nature School and Camps. The sliding scale model we have adopted allows for families to pay what they can afford (instead of other sliding-scale models that have a limit on how low tuition will go, and require families to undergo degrading processes of prooving financial stress).

This honor system sliding-scale availability is made possible, in part, by donations and contributions to the school that help to cover material fees and costs associated with running the program.

Thank you for helping me to live out my dream and purpose. When we connect with nature, we are able to root ourselves in empathy, compassion, connection, and a healthy learning environment so that we can rise to our full potential. I am honored to be a part of this journey for many children and adults, and hope to continue to do so for years to come.

With love and gratitude,

Miss Myria
