Hi friends,
When Hurricane Melissa slammed into Jamaica earlier this week, it left devastation in its wake—roofs ripped off, roads washed away, and entire communities cut off from power and communication. My family was right in the middle of it because we ARE Trelawny, St. James, Manchester and Hanover.
I haven’t heard from my brother since the storm hit, and my cousins’ roof is gone. Six of my family households are now without electricity, without reliable communication, and without enough food. It’s a situation no one should face alone—and that’s why I’m reaching out.
Here’s the truth: We’re not asking for luxuries. We need basics—rice, beans, canned goods, clean water—to keep everyone fed for the next month. Every dollar you give will go directly to these essentials.
How your help will work (for transparency):
My aunt, Judith, who lives in the less-impacted eastern part of the island, still has access to stores and supplies.
For speed and safety, she will receive the funds and purchase food immediately.
As roads are cleared through this weekend, she’ll deliver these essentials to the hardest-hit areas where my family is stranded.
Why your help matters:
You’ll provide immediate relief to real families in crisis...my family
You’ll give hope when everything feels uncertain.
You’ll be part of a community that shows love in action.
Even a small donation makes a huge difference. Please know a child has a meal tonight because of you. That’s the power you hold right now.
Please donate if you can—and share this page with friends. Together, we can turn fear into hope and help my family rebuild stronger. Thank you for being part of this journey. We couldn’t do it without you.
If you would like to make a difference to the broader community, PLEASE consider donating to World Central Kitchen and directly at https://supportjamaica.gov.jm/donate.
No matter what route you choose, THANK YOU for your support.
With love and thanks,
Soshawn Blair, daughter, sister, niece, cousin
