Roo is a two legged bipawd in Bakersfield, Ca who participates as a novice therapy dog in the Miracle Mutts Therapy Dog Program through Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue, giving back to the community that saved her!

Marley’s Mutts pulled Roo and her four siblings at just 1 1/2 weeks old from Kern County Animal Services.

All five puppies had front arm abnormalities and needed round the clock medical and bottle feeding care.

I, Torie, took on three of those babies, but I had a special connection with Roo from the start.

I have had the privilege of running the Miracle Mutts Program, and at the time had been looking to adopt another special needs dog as own dog in the program, Sully, was nearing retirement. Because of the specific temperament needed for therapy work, my one parameter was that I didn’t want a puppy… But the universe had other plans!

At 4 months old Roo had the opportunity to attend a local school pep rally and loved every minute of it!

The next day I decided to officially adopt her, and she has been working as a novice therapy dog ever since.

Roo has been a key part of my own healing as exactly one week later after adopting her, Sully passed away passing his on his legacy, of Miracle Mutts, after nearly 7 years of therapy work.

Today Roo participates multiple times a week in our local community at senior homes, hospitals, mental health, facilities, libraries, schools, and colleges where we educate the community and bring smiles (and kisses) to everyone she meets.

Despite missing both of her front arms, Roo has no problem getting around on her own, but getting her a wheelchair will give her the independence and freedom to inspire more lives!

*Due to her size, shape and need for travel it likely she will need a custom built chair. While there are ample standard back leg wheelchairs, there is limited front wheel options.
