As many of you already know, my dad was diagnosed in January 2019 with pulmonary hypertension, high blood pressure, and stage 4 cirrhosis of the liver (final stage). They’ve determined it to be caused by his body's immune system. It all started in December of 2018 when a blood test was done and found that his Liver enzymes were elevated. They referred him to Ochsner’s in Baton Rouge where they conducted a whole series of test. Many test results revealed that these are his diagnosis:
hemochromatosis, pulmonary fibrosis, hypoxia, chronic respiratory failure, thrombocytopenia, bradycardia, esophageal varices, portal hypertension, pancytopenia, sinus bradycardia, portal vein thrombosis, hepatic encephalopathy, superior mesenteric artery stenosis, hepatopulmonary syndrome, congestive heart failure (He’s had 2 heart attacks) and enlarged Spleen
His blood levels are all kinds of messed up. Some are too high and some are too low. His spleen is destroying his red blood cells and eating up all his protein. His platelets are extremely low.
Many of you that know my Dad know he’s never been one to sit around doing nothing. He was always on the go. In March, he had to resign his position at Ark-La-Tex Shop Builders, a job that he loved doing and enjoyed working with all his coworkers. He’s now unable to drive and on 6 liters of oxygen 24 hours a day. You may have already heard that my dad has been placed on the Liver Transplant list and waiting for the call. After the transplant, a lot of his lung issues will go away slowly. My Mom & Dad are on a limited income so I've set up this page to try helping them out. When they get the call they’ll be in New Orleans for 12-15 weeks and will be staying in an apartment that is 2 blocks from the hospital. Mom won’t be allowed to stay with my him due to COVID. They’ll be getting a small discount on the apartment but it’ll still costs money and she’ll need help with food while being there. Anything will help them!! I hope you’ll find it in your heart to donate. Please continue to pray for them and the drs. Thanks.
