My friend, Ron Kim, left us on May 25th, 2016 at the age of 68. On May 9 he was diagnosed with heart and lung disease after experiencing difficulty breathing and rapid heart rate. This was further complicated by a cancerous tumor found on his heart.
He died as a result of the side effects of chemotherapy, painfree and with the dignity and grace with which he lived his life, according to his wife.
As many of you know, Ron was a veteran, a husband, father, and a wonderful friend to the many who knew him.
We were new to the area and his family had invited my wife and I to Christmas dinner the last couple of years. The first Christmas was dramatic due to mistakes that I made. We thought, "Well, that’s one place we won't be invited back for Christmas dinner," but at the end of the year we received the same kind invitation. That was Ron, gracious and understanding without exception. To this day, I've never heard Ron say anything negative about anybody, period. That is so rare in the world today.
The outpouring of sentiment the family has received from his many friends, relatives and colleagues over his untimely death has inspired the family to hold this celebration of his life.
The funding amount we've set as a goal will go directly to cover end of life expenses, including memorial services.
I want to express my gratitude in advance to those who will find their way to this funding request. If you are in a position to help with any donation, however small, it will be greatly appreciated by myself and the Kim family.
This funding is being coordinated by myself, John Harris, and all proceeds go straight to the Kim family. Mary Jo is, of course, aware of this effort, as well. We would like to raise these funds soon so that his family does not have to add financial worries to the grieving they are already enduring. So many have offered their help and assistance to the family and this is a great way to give so that the community can come together and celebrate his life.
For me, Ron was the man I'd like to be. I will miss him greatly.
Thank you in advance.
