Ronin and Skye are beautiful sixteen months old Golden Retrievers of Brandon and Katie Guthrie, and they are fighting a deadly virus, distemper!!

They are brother and sister. They have been loved, trained and well cared for, but for the critical part of this story, they have been fully vaccinated and vaccinated on schedule.! They live in a protected environment and are not allowed just to roam around. On May 1st Ronin was going in for a check-up. But they both had developed a slight cough, so they decided to take both Ronin and Skye to the veterinarian for a quick check-up. Because of a wonderful, well-trained veterinarian, they decided to run some tests. They found that both dogs were in the very early stages of a deadly distemper virus. Because the dogs were fully vaccinated, they were past the puppy stage, and it was caught very early. They all felt that the dogs had a good chance to fight this with enough care. #fightingforroninandskye #roninandskye

They proceeded to fight hard to get these sweet dogs through this disease doing everything in their power to help them fight this disease. They were hospitalized and given the best treatment possible. They have been given IVs and antiviral medications to reduce symptoms and build immunities. They have been given the best vitamins and are hand-fed. Ice blankets to reduce fever and round-the-clock care, love and comfort from family and medical professionals. They received plasma transfusions from dogs who have survived distemper and have the antibodies to fight the distemper virus. If it could be done to help, they gave it 110%

Although Brandon and Katie would never ask for help, I am asking for help to offset the tremendous cost of helping the sweet dogs fight for their lives. Where most people would have given up, they have continued to love, care and fight for these dogs. **Since the beginning of this process of creating this page. Ronin has passed away. He slipped away quietly on May 25th surrounded by his loving family and his sister Skye. Skye is still fighting, and we are hoping for a different outcome for her.
